Philanthropy + Development

Abhaya Global's Corporate Social Responsibility initiative funds a wide range of projects and organizations around the globe. Our network includes representatives in government, leaders of NGOs, human rights workers, slum-dweller representatives, health care workers, and many others whose missions are analogous in many ways with Abhaya Global's vision. We believe that giving back to communities can happen in myriad ways and seek to be involved with an ever-expanding range of organizations. The fundamental reality for most of these groups is a constant search to meet operating expenses and that is where Abhaya Global comes in. Below is a sample of the projects in which we are engaged.

PUKAR

Our Senior Advisor, Dr. Arjun Appadurai, launched PUKAR, a Mumbai-based organization. PUKAR is our primary vehicle for social change given its mandate to empower the urban and rural poor by giving them the skills to educate themselves regarding problems they face, rather than simply being reliant on outside organizations for help and solutions. We believe that intelligence and problem-solving abilities are characteristics found in all communities and aim to foster a network of citizens from those populations who are specifically trained to find local solutions to local problems. PUKAR's model is already demonstrably successful in India and is applicable throughout the world. Abhaya Global is proud to support PUKAR and overtime will remain a growing support base for its initiatives. For more information please see the PUKAR website at www.pukar.org.in.

Yoga/Wellness Center

In a joint venture with the Kinglake-Lerner family, Abhaya Global is opening a yoga retreat center outside of Barcelona, Spain. We aim to be operational by spring 2010.

Education

We are also beginning to work with Atma Mumbai, an organization based in the Netherlands who have partnered with a school in Mumbai called Muktangan. They seek to train women from the local community to be teachers and in turn empower them to become leaders and agents of positive change.
